Macnabs has drafted more than a hundred Wills for clients and raised over £7000 for charity this year after taking part in a will-writing campaign where lawyers generously give up their time for free to write Wills for local people, in exchange for a donation to the charity.

Macnabs has taken part in the annual Will Aid scheme for 8 years now and raised an impressive total of £44,966 to date. This year the firm raised £7,405 making them the 5th highest donating firm in Scotland, and the top donating firm in Perthshire.

Director Alan Roughead comments: “At Macnabs we know that Will Aid helps such worthwhile causes and for us to be part of that again and to give something back has been wonderful. People often put off making a Will thinking it is expensive or time consuming. However, that is not true. It is very easy to do, and without one you have no control over what will happen to your money, possessions and property after you die, often leading to stressful, and also costly, family disputes. We have unfortunately seen that happen too many times.”

Susan Mackay, Associate in the Private Client team, adds: “If you do have a Will then chances are your circumstances have changed since you wrote it. For example if you now have children or grandchildren, if you are recently divorced or separated, or have a partner but are not legally married. Or what about if you have a property or your own business? It is therefore important to review and update your Will every 3-5 years, so that it accurately reflects what you want to happen when you die.”

Macnabs will be taking part in Will Aid again in November this year.

Will Aid, celebrating it’s 31st year this year, is a charity scheme that raises money for nine charities: ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save The Children, Sightsavers, Age UK, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (Northern Ireland).
