Jamie undertook his two-year traineeship with Macnabs in 1985 and thereafter worked at other established law firms in Perthshire, until re-joining Macnabs in 2015, working mainly from our Blairgowrie office. Throughout his career, Jamie has been predominately a Court practitioner with a wealth of experience in all areas and can generally be found on a daily basis at Perth Sheriff Court.
In civil matters, Jamie deals with resolution of all Family Law related issues relating to children and financial issues following Separation and divorce. Jamie is aware that most Court cases can be difficult, stressful and emotional for all clients involved and is committed to ensuring the process is as smooth and stress-free as possible, together with achieving the best possible outcome for his clients.
Jamie regularly represents clients in Personal Injury Claims in the Sheriff Courts and the Court of Session, involving Road Traffic Accidents, Accidents at Work and Negligence Claims.
Jamie deals with all aspects of criminal work, which includes representation in the Justice of the Peace, Sheriff and High Courts. Jamie was instructed in successfully appealing a dispute to the House of Lords – a process that understandably lasted a number of years before being resolved in favour of the client.
Jamie is married with two children. He is an avid sports fan and particularly enjoys golf and rugby (We Are Warriors!).

Gillian is a commercial property lawyer at Macnabs and heads up the firm’s Property Department, which deals with both Commercial and Residential Property.
Gillian trained in Perth before moving to Edinburgh to work for a number of top-ranking law firms, returning to Perth to take up the position of Head of Property in 2017. Gillian has experience across the whole spectrum of Commercial Property, having acted for various developers including in a number of high-profile mixed-use developments in Edinburgh and Glasgow and also for residential developers in the acquisition of sites for residential development across the central belt.
Gillian also has considerable experience in investment work having acted for a number of institutional and smaller investors in the acquisition and disposal of commercial property throughout Scotland, including retail parks and retail and office premises.
In addition to investment and development work, Gillian has regularly acted for various funders lending across the range of commercial property.

Ruth is a well respected Family lawyer and as well as her client-focused work, as Managing Partner of Macnabs, Ruth is also responsible for ensuring the smooth management of the firm.
She is a member of the Family Law Association and is regularly involved in complex Family Law cases, often with an international element. She is the only solicitor in Tayside accredited as a Specialist in both Family Law and Child Law by the Law Society of Scotland and is also recognised as a 'Recommended Lawyer' in the Legal 500. Ruth is regularly appointed by the local Court as a Child Welfare Reporter, as a Curator ad Litem, as well as a Safeguarder to vulnerable adults.
Ruth works with her clients to find solutions that work for them and their families, and will often recommend using different resolution methods, including mediation and collaborative practice (Ruth is trained as a Collaborative Lawyer, and is the Chair of the Tayside pod of Consensus Collaboration Scotland, the organisation that promotes collaborative practice in Scotland). Family law disputes can often be difficult and highly emotive, and she is committed to dealing with these cases sensitively, yet tenaciously where appropriate.
Ruth's practice includes financial provision cases, prenuptial and cohabitation agreements, as well as child law matters, including contact, residence, relocation, adoption and permanence cases. Court is also a familiar territory for Ruth – she has experience of presenting cases at Sheriff Court, Outer and Inner House through to the UK Supreme Court – and she often appears on behalf of clients in contested hearings, presenting their case both effectively and respectfully.
Ruth is married with two children. Outside of the office she enjoys adventures with her family, and, whenever possible, sipping a mojito with the sand between her toes!
